3RD April 2020
in the 13th week we had a discussion on the movie gangs of wasseypur just like the other movies that we’ve discussed and created a mind on the same.
The discussion about the movie was very insightful, one discussion further led to another, The main features that were covered in class,
COAL:I noticed how coal played big role in describing power and authority coal brought. according to me that coal in the movie represented power and authority
we also compared gangs of Wasseypur with harishchandrachi factory.in terms of the themes and plot, they are based in the same time period, which led to this discussion,
- both the movies were completely different how they were so different even after being based in the same time period.
- Harishchanrachi was based in a city and Gangs of wasseypur was based in a village
- Harishchandri factory was a positive movie which showed the struggle of Raja Harishchandra and his journey of making the first motion picture in India.
- Gangs of wasseypur deals with the emergence of Mafia
- education had never been prioritised
Gangs of wasseypur

THEME
” The film is essentially about two families from Wasseypur and one from Dhanbad. In the process, it explores the larger chunk of the coal and mafia activity. The film deals with the emergence of Mafia. I didn’t want to limit to coal activity so family story had to be shown and what the mafia is doing there now. What we have done with this film is even if it’s a fictional film we have taken actual shots of sand mining. In the film nothing is recreated. Everything here is real shots. The entire river has been turned into sand mine as there is not an ounce of water
PLOT
Gangs of Wasseypur’ symbolizes the fearless new Indian cinema. The film prides itself with substance that connects with enthusiasts of new-age cinema,Gangs of wassyepur is a story of multiple decades,. It has a capricious first half, but the film advances vigorously post intermission. There’s never a tedious moment in the second half of the gangster epic, the plot throws a number of disclosures and visual style
gangs fighting over the coal capital of the country, where rivalry and revenge cut deep, and ‘coal’-blooded crimes are second nature. Shahid Khan is betrayed, and his sons and grandsons swear to avenge his dishonour and death.
