INTEGRATIVE SEMINAR WEEK 3

Today we learnt about an Italian journalist and writer Italo Calvino.Italo Calvino, (born October 15, 1923, Santiago de las Vegas, Cuba—died September 19, 1985, Siena, Italy), Italian journalist, short-story writer, and novelist whose whimsical and imaginative fables made him one of the most important Italian fiction writers in the 20th century.YOUTH & ADULT LIFE – Italo moved to Italy in his youth and joined the Italian resistance during world war II. -After the war, he settled in Turin to obtain a degree in literature.  -He began working as a journalist with a magazine. -His first two works of fiction were inspired by the Italian revolution. – He had an affair with an Italian actress Elsa (1955-1958) which we derive from the excerpts of his love letters  which were first published as “American Diary 1959–1960” in Hermit in Paris in 2003. – Calvino got married in 1964 to Chicita and had a daughter, Gionanna. – Calvino died in 1985.WRITING STYLES – Short stories, Novels, Fiction, Fantasy, Comedy, Fables, Folk tales, Calvino was a contender for Noble prize in literature.INSPIRATION – Oral storytelling, Italian folk, Neo realism , Love, WWIIAfter discussing Calvino, we went through his book ‘Invisible Cities’. Reading the few chapters gave me an understanding towards his writing style and his wild imaginations. Every chapter was way different than the other.
