INTERIOR DESIGN

WEEK 1

Today was my first class for Interior Design. Our main topic for these 6 classes would be Anthropemetry and Ergonomics. Anthropometry is the study between human body and design. How is the ratio between the body and the object, example, height, weight, physical disability, gender, proportions, etc. Ergonomics is the study of people and their relationship to the environment around them. Example, people living in India have different body type and different heights and same for the people living in America. So depending upon the population, studying their body type and then designing a product using the proper measurements is very important. As we started off with the class, I realized how important these things were in the basic study of Interior Design.

I really enjoyed my first class and I’m really looking forward to the rest of them!

WEEK 2

In the second week, The class started off with revising what we had done in the previous class. We learnt some basic factors and questions which are often raised while studying interior design. we need to understand how to think like a designer.we understood how important to understand what the person is asking for. Knowing the person’s taste of style and needs are a major factor in interior design.

Example,

What are the factors that impact design?

  • Gender
  • uses
  • functions
  • age group
  • purpose
  • origin
  • physical disability
  • colour and appearance, etc

we also covered few other questions like

  • can a luxury impact design?
  • who are you designing it for?
  • different factors used while designing different products, etc

We were also given an assignment where we had to make groups of 2 to 3 people and study the heights of different products best suited for the group ergonomics.

I and my group studied 2,4 different furniture . Each one of us took the avarage measure ments and made points on how short or tall that furniture is , if it was comfortable, etc. We compiled all our thoughts and made it into a PPT.

WEEK 3

We revised everything we had done in the last two classes. I and my group also presented our presentation and gave the necessary points. Ma’am helped us understand where we all could have focused more and would have made the presentation even better.

WEEK 4

Our todays topic to study was Orthographic Projections.Orthographic Projections are the base of Interior designing. They are the key to any sketch we will make while designing something. It is very important to understand the structure and knowing how to sketch out the plan, front and side view of it. Top view matters the most when it comes to interior designing.

These are a few of the screenshots I took while the presentation was on.

WEEK 5

In the first half of the class, We reviewed everyone’s work and took a few examples of my classmates so as to how we can improve on our assignments.

For the next hour, we started with a topic “Orthographic Projections”

It basically means to understand the basic needs of the product or whatever it is that you’re working on. For example, if I were to design a pencil box, there are a few things I should keep in my mind while designing it. Like what will go inside the box, length, height, breadth, shape, storage, etc.

We then moved onto understanding the layout of an interior designing of a room.It had 3 important parts: Plan, Sectional plan and Sectional elevation. We then looked onto one-bedroom and understood how it was made. We viewed how the person had directed the walls, windows, door swing, bed, side tables, etc. We also saw the same room at different angles and close-ups. As an Interior designer it is important to design the bedroom very carefully and get full use out of it without making the room look heavy and uncomfortable.
