WEEK 1
15th January, 2020
Today was the first class, it was an introduction to what product design is all going to be about. We started the lecture with a brief introduction and a slideshow in which we were given a detailed information about the process of becoming a product designer and the few steps which had to be followed. The presentation helped us clear many doubts and gave us the real image. We were even briefed about the syllabus in the further years, placements and most importantly the qualities of patience and hard work which is required in being a successful product designer.
There was a quick discussion about a good and a bad design and we were assigned to get few ideas and objects which indicate the same for the next class.
WEEK 2
22nd January, 2020.
In the second week of product design we started the class by going through Sir’s portfolio. It had his work of several years in an informative way. It was focused on the packaging design but the process sketches helped us see the other side too. This helped me in understanding the real work that goes into the creation of a product. Each slide focused on every aspect and the process that goes into the creation of the respective product. Further on we gather around and discussed our perspective towards a good and a bad design. Everyone had different views and examples to prove their point. Some had difference of opinions like, a sensory water tap might be a good design for few as one doesn’t need to get in contact with it while it is a bad design for few as it leads to waste of water. A good design needs to be efficient, self explanatory, long lasting etc but most importantly it needs to be a good business as that would indicate it being the best design on the basis of the sales.
A bad design will be the opposite and few examples are, the usb cord as no one gets it right the first time.
WEEK 3
29th January, 2020.
The third week was about understanding the difference between a good and bad design and working upon it. I learnt about the ten commandments of Dieter Rams and what according to him is a good design; 1. Is innovative 2. Makes a product useful 3. Is aesthetic 4. Makes a product understandable 5. Is unobtrusive 6. Is honest 7. Is long-lasting 8. Is thorough down to the last detail 9. Is environmentally friendly 10. Involves as little design as possible
On the basis of the general idea one had, we had to make a good and bad mood board.

WEEK 4
5th February 2020.
Today we had to observe and come up with good ideas which could be converted into bad and vice versa. This was a fun way to look at things and modify it.This is an example of a bad idea .

WEEK 5
12th February, 2020.
After the observations in the previous class, I finally came up with an idea. I decided to convert a good design into a bad one and I took a pair of scissors as my product. The most basic product which serves its purpose perfectly was converted into a bad design by reversing the blades and by adding a sponge to it Before finalizing my idea I went through a bunch of ideas and sketched it out.

WEEK 6
19th February, 2020.
in Today class of product designing one had to make a mockup of their respective designs. The most imporatant part of this process is the selection of the material as materials make or break the product. This project was quite interesting and informative. It helped me get a better perspective as well as helped me expirement and learn different skills.
