TIME WEEK 9

6th march 2020

Today we watched a movie and had a detailed conversation on the same . The movie is called ‘Harishchandrachi Factory’ which was based on the life of Dada Saheb Phalke and his journey through creating the first ever motion picture in India, The time period showed in the movie was 1911 when India was still under the British rule.

It amazes how an idea as basic as this remains untouched by any storyteller so far. The uniqueness of this brain wave is efficiently exploited by debutante writer-director it was mainly about a common man with uncommon vision in Harishchandrachi Factory. i learnt a lot, i noticed every tiny detail and realised many more as we continued discussing the movie it was interesting to see how each person interpreted the movie especially when we were discussing symbolism and the time period of the movie, . It was interesting to see how this entire industry was established and how perfectly the movie and that time period was depicted.

in the later half class was divided into groups and each group was assigned a particular era, my group got 1966-80 The 7 movies we got were- Sholay, Griha pravesh, Bombay Velvet, Chitchor,Mriagayaa, Manthan and Sankarabharaman.and according to these era’s we were supposed to watch few movies that we had to watch and make mind maps on the same

TIME PERIOD

characters

  • every character in the movie have their own individual story line and have been highlighted properly , by the end of the movie you can see the growth in each and every character of the movie, whether it was the son, Phalke’s wife or an actor working in the movie.
  • The character of the elder son struck out to me, his growth throughout the movie was something that i noticed and something that stood out to me. In the beginning he was shown as a character who is shown as a very timid character, but as the movie goes on there are several scenes which show his maturity such as him helping his father out during the movie, and continuing with his scenes even when he was hurt shows his growth throughout the movie and how he develops into a very strong character even when he helps his father come back home from the theater when Phalke doesn’t have a clear vision,

symbolism
